About Us

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." Mark Twain

Off and away

We are on our way now.  It is hard to believe after the many months of planning and packing that we are going.  Currently we are on a five-hour flight to Seattle, WA and after a lay-over will be heading to Beijing.  We arrive late in the night at about 11pm if we remain on schedule.  Hopefully and as promised there will be someone from the hostel to pick us up from the airport.

We are spending a few days in Beijing in part so I (and Allyson) can get acclimated before heading off to Mongolia.  We plan on touring the city’s essentials quickly, including the required side journey to the Great Wall (I hear it’s kind of a big deal).  So expect some pictures and video of the Forbidden Palace, Tiananmen Square and of me looking overwhelmed.

Last night we were able to meet up with some Atlantans before we left.  We had some burgers, craft beer (and a PBR for me) and a lot of laughs with some friends.  To all those people who could not come, we want to say we will miss you and sorry we didn’t connect.  Please stay in touch with one of many of the new technological marvels of our time.  I’ll quote myself from last night: (regarding the internet) “there is just so much information out there.”  That insightful message brought to you by Milwaukee's Pride: Pabst Blue Ribbon.

We had to check our main backpacks so here is to hoping they make it with us.  Allyson devised an ingenious packing system.  How does one pack for three months with backpacks?  Here is a little video of the packing system:
